The Three Passes trek is quite an trekking expedition, often referred to as the most challenging route to reach Everest Base Camp. It's a 17-day journey, our longest trek in Nepal, and it's not for the faint of heart. If you're an experienced trekker up for the ultimate challenge, the Three Passes trek promises an unforgettable experience in the Khumbu region.
This adventure begins in the remote Dhote Kosi valley in the far west and takes you over Renjo La pass, leading to the beautiful Gokyo valley. Here, you'll have the opportunity to explore the stunning emerald lakes that give Gokyo its name. The path then guides you over the demanding Cho La pass and into the Dudh Kosi valley before the final leg to the renowned Everest base camp. The journey concludes as you descend and cross the Kongma La pass, eventually arriving in the picturesque Imja Khola valley. Along the way, you'll also conquer three impressive peaks: Gokyo Ri, Kala Patar, and Chukhung Ri.
This trek is a true test of dedication and endurance, making it an adventure of a lifetime for those who are up for the challenge.

- Trek Start:
- Begins from Kathmandu to lukla after flight.
- Requires obtaining necessary permits and TIMS card.
- The trail gradually ascends through diverse landscapes.
- Accommodation:
- Teahouses/lodges along the route offer basic lodging.
- Dormitory-style rooms or private rooms available.
- Basic amenities like beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms.
- Meals:
- Teahouses provide meals: Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup), noodles, rice dishes, etc.
- Limited menu items, especially at higher altitudes.
- Carrying some energy bars and snacks is recommended.
- Typical Day:
- Start early in the morning for better weather and views.
- Trek for about 6-8 hours a day, with breaks in between.
- Reach teahouse for the night, rest, and explore.
- Communication:
- Limited mobile network coverage, especially at higher altitudes.
- Some teahouses offer Wi-Fi, but it might be slow and unreliable.
- Electricity and Water:
- Charging devices may come at an extra cost in teahouses.
- Hot showers might be available for an additional fee.
- Safe drinking water: carry purification methods or buy bottled water.
- Tipping:
- Tipping is a common practice to show appreciation for good service.
- You can tip guides, porters, and teahouse staff if you're satisfied.
- Trek Season:
- Best seasons: Autumn (clear weather) and Spring.
- Winter is colder but less crowded. Summer/Monsoon brings rain and more challenge.
