The Annapurna North Base Camp Trek offers a thrilling adventure for those who seek the untamed beauty of the Annapurna region. It's a less-explored route that takes you to the base camp of Annapurna I (8091 meters), a mountain that witnessed its first historic ascent in 1950 by a French expedition led by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal. Initially, the team aimed for Dhaulagiri but ended up conquering the challenging North Face of Annapurna, now famously known as the French North Face Route. Their daring ascent without oxygen marked a milestone in mountaineering history. The descent was equally treacherous, filled with snowstorms and avalanches, but they managed to return to their camp, albeit barely.

Since that historic climb, Annapurna I wasn't summited again until 1970 when a British Army expedition followed the same route. Today, adventurous souls with a passion for wilderness exploration venture to Annapurna North Face Base Camp. The trek is demanding, but it rewards you with awe-inspiring vistas of Annapurna I, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhepuchare, and Dhaulagiri. Along the way, you'll encounter natural hot springs, immerse yourself in the rich Gurung culture, and experience the pristine beauty of the Himalayas. The journey kicks off in Pokhara, leading you to Tatopani and then following the trail blazed by Maurice Herzog. After reaching the base camp on the ninth day, you'll have an unforgettable experience before making your way back, possibly through Lete in Mustang. This trek is a true adventure for those who crave the wild and breathtaking landscapes of the Annapurna region.
